Course Overview

This course provides an in-depth look at the critical role firestop materials play in maintaining fire-resistance-rated assemblies and achieving code-compliant installations. Participants will explore the wide range of firestop products, how they are tested within listed systems, and why visual inspection requires more than just surface-level observation. Designed for inspectors, AHJs, contractors, and design professionals, the session emphasizes the importance of proper documentation, substrate preparation, and awareness of common installation errors that can compromise life safety.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Differentiate between firestop materials and fire-rated assemblies and explain why compliance depends on listed system installations, not individual product ratings.
  2. Identify key inspection criteria for various firestop materials, including cure times, shrinkage, substrate conditions, and documentation requirements.
  3. Recognize common firestop installation deficiencies and understand how to verify correct system use during visual inspections to ensure IBC compliance.
